Birds flyin’ high, you know how I feel
Sun in the sky, you know how I feel
Breeze driftin’ on by, you know how I feel
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me.
Yeah, it’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me, ooooooooh…
And I’m feelin’ good.
Fish in the sea, you know how I feel
River runnin’ free, you know how I feel
Blossom on the tree, you know how I feel
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me,
And I’m feelin’ good
Dragonfly out in the sun, you know what I mean, don’t you know,
Butterflies all havin’ fun, you know what I mean.
Sleep in peace when day is done: that’s what I mean,
And this old world is a new world and a bold world for me…
Stars when you shine, you know how I feel
Scent of the pine, you know how I feel
Yeah, freedom is mine, and I know how I feel..
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me
[scat]
And I’m feelin’… good.
Nina Simone set these lyrics on fire when she sang. The first time I heard this song was Jennifer Hudson singing it on her Weight Watchers commercial. I HAD to find the original. (Not that JHud couldn’t have written this, but it didn’t feel new when I heard it) The lyrics touched my ENTIRE spirit. It was so…..me. Simple word play, beautiful imagery. I was in love.
This morning, I couldn’t get the song out of my head.
*It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me* – that line woke me up out of my sleep.
Got up, made coffee, washed dishes, made breakfast. (Yes, coffee before food)
*…and I’m feelin’ gooooooooooooooooooood*
December 1st. It was a new dawn. And it is a new day. And tomorrow starts a new chapter in my life. And I will be 40 in a few days. And I am feeling good. I like this. Let’s see if I can keep this up.
When you wake up with a song in your head, does it fuel your day? What song plays the most? Share, maybe I can get a new song :-).
