Hey Ma….

Very dangerous phrase…..especially when coming from your almost 20 year old college child.

Hey Ma….can I have some money?

Hey Ma….can you do my laundry?

Hey Ma….can I borrow your car?

Hey Ma…can you cook before I leave?

Sigh….my oldest child, currently known as The Sophomore, is home for Easter Break. No, this is not spring break, that was a few weeks ago. He is home for a week and I couldn’t be happier. He adds to my overall grocery bill when he is home so I am glad he arrived near a pay day…IJS. So it is now Easter Sunday and he wanted me to cook. But not for Easter per say, but because these are things he wants me to make for him (and his girlfriend (another story)) as a Sunday dinner.

How exactly am I supposed to say no to this face?

The Sophomore

Or these faces?

The Crew

Sigh….I’m not. So I grocery shopped for one meal and here is what they wanted:

BBQ Chicken

Collards with Smoked Turkey Wings

Macaroni 'n' Cheese

Macaroni ‘n’ Cheese

I could not any conjure up a dessert because I was too tired so I bought candy. I mean it is Easter after all lol.

Full bellies and smiles all around made it all worth it.

So when your college kid comes home, and asks for a meal, do you make it? My child is so far away at school, St. John’s in Queens, NY, that I kinda feel like I have to say yes because we don’t get to see him very often.

Besides, I am NOT giving up my car or my money and I am definitely not doing laundry!

  1. The meal you made looks fantastic. I hope he appreciated it. I’d love your recipe for whole bbq chicken if you’re willing to share. Thanks for sharing your link with The Houseful of Nicholes. It’s how I found you.

Sorry for the late reply, but the recipe is actually fairly simple. We take a whole chicken and cut it at the back. Dry rub it with our favorite spice mix – No Salt Seasoning – from CostCo and put it on the grill. Nothing too fancy, and super delicious!
